A big round of applause for Sam Goodchild!

Published on 8 February 2024

Yves Parlier is incredibly proud to be the ambassador of his boat “For the Planet”! Sam Goodchild finishes first in the IMOCA season. It’s huge for someone who just started in the class this year!

This great sailor has just completed the Retour à la base race in 3rd place. A bronze medal to add to the one he just won at the end of the Transat Jacques Vabre Normandie Le Havre!

This latest performance between the Caribbean and Lorient is very promising for the upcoming Vendée Globe. Indeed, the conditions of the Retour à la Base are very similar to those that skippers will encounter in the southern latitudes of the VG, namely strong wind and sea conditions with fast-reaching sailing, where both boats and sailors are heavily challenged.

As for Thomas Ruyant, who continues on despite a breakdown in his rudder system, let’s not forget that he previously broke the 24-hour distance record, covering 539.94 nautical miles (999.96 km) at an average speed of 22.49 knots (about 42 km/h)!

In conclusion, congratulations to the entire We Sail For People and Planet team and their sponsors for these magnificent performances that bring me a lot of emotions as a former skipper still deeply passionate about offshore racing!
