On 19 August 2022, the Admiral of the French Navy in New Aquitaine, François Guichard, presented the prize for merit, mutual aid and solidarity to the crew of Beyond the Sea, who took part in the 18h d’Arcachon in June. A human adventure for the company’s president Yves Parlier and his young engineers recruited by the company, some of whom are not used to sailing. “What I liked was the process of introducing young people to sailing and the sea”, said François Guichard during his visit to the Beyond the Sea workshop. The president of the Cercle de la Voile d’Arcachon, Eric Limouzin, was of course also present for the award ceremony.

Afterwards, everyone went to the building site (Grégory Debord yard) of the catamaran Le SeaKite in Port Meyran. There, Yves Parlier showed the admiral the kite traction demonstrator and the other technologies on board. Indeed, the catamaran Le SeaKite is designed as a laboratory for the decarbonisation of the navy.

The former Hydraplaneur, which has been completely refurbished, has several technological bricks on board in addition to the kite traction system developed by Beyond the Sea. For example, the turbines of the Gironde company ADV Propulse, which imitate the movement of a fish fin to recover energy and then restore it in order to propel the boat when it is not under wing.

In addition, the company ERMA ENERGY, also a member of the SeaKite consortium supported by the Nouvelle-Aquitaine Region, carried out the energy coupling of the vessel, its wiring… in short, its entire electrical system.
