Conference on the Future of Sail-Powered Maritime Transportation!

Published on 8 February 2024

This Tuesday, October 24, 2023, Selma Nemouchi, one of the members of Beyond the Sea, will attend a conference organized by the National Higher Maritime School (ENSM) on the future of sail-powered maritime transportation live from Le Havre.

The conference program includes two roundtable discussions. The first one is on the theme “Sail transportation, a myth reborn as reality?” moderated by François Lambert, the general director of ENSM. We will have the opportunity to hear from prominent figures in sail transportation such as Diana Mesa, the co-founder and CEO of TOWT – TransOceanic Wind Transport, as well as Nils Joyeux, the founder of Zephyr and Boreas.

Next, our legal and institutional affairs manager will have the opportunity to attend a roundtable discussion on the theme of “Merchant shipping as a laboratory in the evolution of sail-powered transportation.” During this discussion, François Lambert will give the floor to Catherine Chabaud, a member of the European Parliament, and the winner of the 7th edition of the Vendée Globe and founder of VELA – Sail For Goods, François Gabart.

Could the future of maritime transportation lie in sail? Initiatives for wind-powered vessels are multiplying, to the extent that yesterday’s sailing is becoming today’s innovation. Will it still remain so tomorrow?
